Rivet Wars: Reloaded introduces new map tiles and mission cards, allowing for a variety of scenarios and layouts - as shown here on Tabletop Simulator. Ahead of a Kickstarter campaign on September 6th, lead designer Jamie Perkins and game designer Steve Margetson took us through a gameplay demo on Tabletop Simulator. That return is a fully-fledged reboot in the form of Rivet Wars: Reloaded, which looks to spruce up the game’s visuals, miniatures and rules while staying true to Terranova’s world and gameplay. ![]() In other words, Rivet Wars still looks to be comfortable territory for Steamforged, which picked up the game earlier this summer before unveiling its impending return. It’s perhaps unsurprising: video game developer and artist Ted Terranova drew from his work on real-time strategy game Rise of Nations and the Definitive Edition remaster of Age of Empires III while creating the original 2014 game, while the team handling its latest Reloaded incarnation openly cite classic real-time strategy games such as Warcraft 3 as influences. Watch on YouTube The Kickstarter trailer for Rivet Wars: Reloaded Rivet Wars’ gameplay is deeply rooted in video games influences, combining the territory control and unit management of real-time strategy games popularised by StarCraft, Command & Conquer and Age of Empires with the chibi-like visuals of mobile games like Clash of Clans. The similarities are more than a passing resemblance. WARCRAFT III DEMO SERIESIts original setting mashes together historical influences from the era - without delving too deeply into the real-life horrors or problematic central figures involved - with dieselpunk mechs and vehicles reminiscent of artist Jakub Różalski’s 1920+ universe, as seen in board game Scythe, or Nintendo’s beloved tactical video game series Advance Wars. Yet Rivet Wars: Reloaded isn’t just another World War I game. Delving into real history feels an unexpected leap from zombies, football and magical dogs. Away from big-name franchises, the publisher has explored its own fantasy worlds in Guild Ball, Bardsung and Godtear. The Manchester studio has made its name off the back of adapting various hit video games for the tabletop, from Dark Souls and Resident Evil to Monster Hunter and Horizon. the game itself is smooth and detailed, the maps are varied and each of the races is uniquely defined with a cast of memorable characters.World War I may not seem the most obvious next stop for Steamforged Games. The cut scenes and story telling are incredible and wouldn't be out of place in a movie. Multi-player support allows multiple people to play against each other on a symmetrical map with the entire tech tree for their selected race open to them to research and use.īlizzard is known for high standards when it comes to their game design and Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is no different. ![]() Each mission will usually have an additional unit open to use. Heroes persist from mission to mission and the player will have a chance to level them up, gathering unique items and pick different skills. Undead, Human, Orc and Night Elves all have unique heroes, buildings and units. The campaign follows a set string of events and throughout the game you will play as one of the four playable races. A melee knight, for example, is ineffective against a flying gnome helicopter. Different buildings and units have different abilities and army compositions can be changed to defend against different threats. Game play follows the standard RTS formula of gathering resources to build buildings to unlock the ability to build either better buildings, different units or upgrades. Blizzard upholds their high standard in cut scenes, production value and story telling. The story is told through cut scenes, in mission dialogue and is supplemented by content in the manual. Objectives are diverse and vary from defending a check point against waves of enemies, transporting units safely from one location to another or wiping the opponent off the map. Missions are comprised of resource gathering, base building and army building with the intent of meeting mission objectives. ![]() Players take on the role of a hero that is able to level up from mission to mission. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is the third installment in the Warcraft universe and holds true to Blizzard's tried and true formula while still introducing new elements. Warcraft is an award winning hero based Real Time Strategy game. ![]()
